Yom Hazikaron (יום הזיכרון) is one of the most notable and significant national holidays added to the Jewish calendar right after the Establishment of the State of Israel. It is something that ever since has never been taken lightly but sacredly by all Jewish families who had lost their loveones for the freedom of their nation.

When is Yom Hazikaron 2014

Yom Hazikaron this year in the Gregorian calendar falls on the evening of Sunday, 4th of May and continues until the evening of Monday, 5th of May in avoidance of conflict with the Shabbat.

Yom Hazikaron this year in the Hebrew calendar exactly falls on the 5th day of Iyyar.

Yom Hazikaron Siren 2014

The most conspicuous event during the Yom Hazikaron, just like in Holocaust Remebrance Day, is the sound of siren that is sounded twice and heard throughout the country.

The first siren will be sounded for one minute on the eve of Yom Hazikaron which is at 20:00 (8:00pm) of Sunday evening, May 04, 2014 as it officially opens the event.

The second siren will be sounded for two minutes on the day itself at 11:00 in the morning of Monday, May 05, 2014.

Yom Hazikaron 2014 Highlights of Events

The sound of siren in the eve of Yom Hazikaron signals the beginning of the main ceremony at the Western Wall in Jerusalem as the flag of Israeli is lowered in the middle. Upon the siren, the entire country comes to an absolute stop where all car engines are turned off and parked silently. Entertainment places, shops, restaurants, movie theatres and cafes are close according to the law.

The second siren is sounded prior to the public recitation of prayers for the military cemeteries. There are also various ceremonies in school and in other historic places and landmarks on the morning of Memorial Day. Public amusements are strictly close during this entire day.

There will be a State ceremony for the Victims of Terror in Israel and Abroad will be held in Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem at 13:00 (1:00pm) followed by the torch-lighting ceremony at 19:45 (7:45pm) on Monday, May 05, 2014. The ceremony for the fallen underground and immigrant gallows will be held at the Museum of Underground Prisoners at Acre Prison on May 05, 2014 at 16:00 (4:00pm).

Yom Hazikaron 2015

Yom Hazikaron will occur on the evening of Tuesday, 21st of April and will continue until the evening of Wednesday, 22nd of April 2015 in the Gregorian calendar. Yom Hazikaron in the Hebrew calendar will fall on the 4rd day of Iyyar 5775.
